Pipe Ramming

A non-steerable system of forming a bore by driving an open-ended steel casing using a percussive hammer from a drive pit. The soil may be removed from the casing by augering, jetting, or compressed air.

Pipe ramming is an excellent, cost-efficient alternative for placing steel casing under roads, railroads, finished landscapes and structures. Compared to conventional methods, ramming saves setup time, and offers lower equipment and maintenance costs.

Specially tapered, precision-formed collets lock the nose of the tool in the pipe, allowing the rapid installation of the pipe. Collets are designed for quick and efficient installation and removal -- no welding, sledgehammers or wasted time.

Walter C. Smith Co.’s engineers can tell you if this method of installation would be best for your project. Contact us at (559) 299-9727 or e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
